Ian’s commitment to service was evident not only in his professional accolades, such as the Medal of Commendation from the Watertown Fire Department, but also in his tireless efforts with the Billerica Substance Awareness and Prevention Committee, where he offered hope and assistance to those grappling with substance abuse. Yet, beyond his professional achievements, Ian’s true essence lay in his infectious personality. His listening ear, goodwill, sharp wit, and ever-present grin illuminated the lives of all who knew him. And let’s not forget his secret stashes of goodies—a testament to his playful spirit. To say Ian will be missed feels inadequate; his absence leaves a void impossible to fill. But as we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he lived—a life dedicated to service, compassion, and unwavering kindness. Sergeant Ian Taylor, forever remembered, forever cherished. Sergeant Ian Taylor leaves behind his devoted wife, Mindy and their loving children, Kylee and Nathan. He was the beloved son of Sandy and Dan Crane and retired Lawrence police officer Wayne and Lisa Taylor. Sergeant Taylor is also survived by his brothers, Danny Crane, Officer Zack Taylor and his wife Lindsay, and Cameron Taylor and his wife Drue. He was a cherished great-grandson of Georgette Taylor Nana” and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who all love him dearly. His loss is mourned deeply by his extensive family, friends, and fellow officers. He is predeceased by his brother, David Crane. Sergeant Detective lan Taylor was a 21-year law enforcement veteran. lan began his career as a Patrol Officer for the Lawrence Police Department in 2003. lan served the community of Lawrence with pride until 2010 when he transitioned to serving the Wilmington Police Department until 2011. The Billerica Police Department welcomed lan in 2011 and promoted him to the Criminal Bureau where he worked as a detective until April 26, 2024. This is also the date that lan was promoted to Sergeant, a title that was very much earned. In 2018, lan was recognized by the Watertown Fire Department with a Medal of Commendation for his life saving efforts at in accident in Watertown. The wealth of knowledge that lan brought to the Billerica Police Department was boundless. In addition to his work as a detective, lan worked tirelessly as part of the Billerica Substance Awareness and Prevention Committee to help those struggling with substance abuse. Ian dedicated his life to helping others and saved countless lives in the process. As a person, lan was infectious. His ability to listen, good will, wit, and perpetually up to something grin, shed light on each person whose paths crossed his. When he wasn’t giving advice or helping a colleague, you could find lan wherever he hid the peppermint patties. lan was a son to Sandy Crane, retired Lawrence Police Captain Wayne Taylor, and his stepmother Lisa, a brother to Zachary and Cameron, a devoted husband to Mindy, a loving father to Nathan and Kylee, and a loved one to his countless family and friends. The vigil will be held on Sunday, April 28, in the courtyard of Billerica Memorial High School, located at 35 River St., from 6-7:30 p.m. The vigil is open to the public and anyone wishing to celebrate the life of Sgt. Taylor is welcome to attend. Parking will be available at the high school. Memorial service arrangements for Sgt. Taylor are still being made and details will be provided as they become available. On this day, police departments around the country provide an opportunity for citizens to safely dispose of unwanted and unneeded prescription medications. Medications are disposed with no questions asked”, however we cannot accept sharps nor liquid medications. The take back site will be located at the Billerica Police Department, 6 Good Street, between the hours of 10AM and 2PM. For citizens who are unable to drop-off on Saturday, the Billerica Police Department offers a disposal kiosk, available 24 hours a day, in the lobby of the police station.
